Polyaluminium chloride (PAC)
An inorganic polymer coagulant for drinking water, wastewater and process water. Supplied as powder or liquid, in drinking-water and industrial grades, from partner factories in Gongyi, Henan.

What PAC does
PAC (CAS 1327-41-9) is a pre-hydrolysed aluminium coagulant. Added to raw water, it neutralises the charge on suspended particles and colloids so that they clump into flocs and settle or filter out. Its general formula is Aln(OH)mCl3n−m.
- Turbidity and colour removal
- Suspended solids and part of COD removal
- Chemical phosphorus removal
- Sludge conditioning before dewatering
The right grade and dose depend on your water. We always recommend a jar test before ordering.

Grades we supply
White PAC
- Powder
Usually made from aluminium hydroxide. Low iron and insolubles. Used for drinking water and applications that need a clean, light colour, such as papermaking.
Yellow PAC
- Powder
- Liquid
The most widely used colour. Available as drinking-water grade (GB 15892) or industrial grade (GB/T 22627), depending on raw materials and process.
Brown / tan PAC
- Powder
Industrial grade with higher iron content. A cost-effective choice for municipal sewage and industrial wastewater. Not for drinking water.
Liquid PAC is usually practical only for buyers close to a port or able to handle bulk liquid. Ask us whether liquid makes sense for your location.
Typical specifications
The limits below are the requirements of the Chinese national standards. Actual values vary by grade and batch and are stated on the COA for each batch. Typical, per batch COA.
Drinking-water grade GB 15892-2020
| Item | Liquid | Solid (powder) |
|---|---|---|
| Appearance | Colourless to light yellow transparent liquid | White to light yellow granules or powder |
| Alumina (Al2O3), % | ≥ 10.0 | ≥ 29.0 |
| Basicity, % | 45.0 – 90.0 | |
| Density (20 °C), g/cm³ | ≥ 1.12 | — |
| Insoluble matter, % | ≤ 0.1 | |
| pH (10 g/L solution) | 3.5 – 5.0 | |
| Iron (Fe), % | ≤ 0.2 | |
| Arsenic (As), % | ≤ 0.0001 | |
| Lead (Pb), % | ≤ 0.0005 | |
| Cadmium (Cd), % | ≤ 0.0001 | |
| Mercury (Hg), % | ≤ 0.00001 | |
| Chromium (Cr), % | ≤ 0.0005 | |
Insoluble matter, iron and heavy-metal limits are expressed for a product with 10.0% Al2O3; for higher-strength products the standard converts them proportionally.
Industrial grade GB/T 22627-2022
| Item | Liquid | Solid (powder) |
|---|---|---|
| Appearance | Colourless to yellow or yellow-brown liquid | White to yellow or yellow-brown granules or powder |
| Alumina (Al2O3), % | ≥ 8.0 | ≥ 28.0 |
| Density (20 °C), g/cm³ | ≥ 1.12 | — |
| Basicity, % | 20.0 – 98.0 | |
| Insoluble matter, % | ≤ 0.4 | |
| pH (10 g/L solution) | 3.5 – 5.0 | |
| Iron (Fe), % | ≤ 1.5 | |
| Ammonia nitrogen (as N), % | ≤ 0.05 | |
| Arsenic (As), % | ≤ 0.0005 | |
| Lead (Pb), % | ≤ 0.002 | |
| Cadmium (Cd), % | ≤ 0.0005 | |
| Mercury (Hg), % | ≤ 0.00005 | |
| Chromium (Cr), % | ≤ 0.005 | |
Impurity limits are expressed for a product with 10% Al2O3. GB/T 22627-2022 replaced GB/T 22627-2014 on 1 Oct 2022. If your tender specifies another standard (for example EN 883 or AWWA B408), send it to us and we will check which suppliers can meet it before quoting.
Packing and paperwork
- Powder: 25 kg woven polypropylene bags with PE liner (most common). Other bag sizes and jumbo bags on request.
- Liquid: IBC totes or drums, depending on quantity and destination.
- Documents: COA for each batch, MSDS/SDS, commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading. Certificate of origin and third-party inspection can be arranged on request.
- Labelling: neutral or buyer's own label on request.
Loading quantities per container depend on packing and are confirmed in the quotation.

Test it on your own water first.
Ask for a free 1 kg PAC sample with its COA. You only cover the courier. Run a jar test, then decide.
